SR 836 / I-395 / I-95 Reconstruction Design-Build

Miami-Dade County, FL

Historic $838 million reconstruction creating Miami's iconic Signature Bridge

The I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project is a reconstruction project that enhances capacity and safety on three of Miami-Dade's major highways: SR 836, I-95, and I-395. Ardurra manages several design elements for the project, partnering with Archer Western -- de Moya Group JV to deliver historic infrastructure improvements. This extraordinary reconstruction project enhances capacity and safety while creating iconic architectural landmarks that will define Miami's skyline for generations to come.

The project features groundbreaking engineering, including a double-decker bridge over SR 836 and the Miami River, new I-95 lanes, and the spectacular 1,025-foot Signature Bridge spanning Biscayne Boulevard with six arches rising from a central thrust block---a first in bridge design history. The tallest arch reaches 330 feet, creating dramatic views that are more than 100 feet above ground while providing direct connectivity to Miami Beach.

Key Project Highlights:

  • Managing $838 million reconstruction of three major highways, improving capacity, safety, and regional connectivity
  • Overseeing innovative double-decker bridge extending from the Marlins Stadium area to the MacArthur Causeway, bypassing I-95 for direct Miami Beach access
  • Designing historic 1,025-foot Signature Bridge featuring six arches from central thrust block with 330-foot maximum height
  • Creating a suspended cable-stay bridge deck providing spectacular skyline views as drivers traverse between Miami Beach and downtown
  • Developing a 55-acre Heritage Trail underneath I-395 connecting Downtown Miami and revitalizing Overtown community
  • Managing maintenance of traffic across all three corridors, ensuring continuous operations during construction
  • Coordinating complex structures work throughout a multi-corridor project requiring precise engineering and construction sequencing

The project delivers dramatic improvements to regional mobility while creating architectural landmarks that enhance Miami's international profile. The Heritage Trail component provides lasting community benefits, connecting neighborhoods and supporting economic revitalization in historically underserved areas.
