I-75 at Fruitville Road Interchange

Sarasota, FL

Widening I-75 to 10-lane ultimate section with Diverging Diamond Interchange

Ardurra enhances a critical I-75 segment, from north of the Bee Ridge Road (SR 758) interchange to north of the Fruitville Road (SR 780) interchange, by widening and reconstructing the interstate to meet the 10-lane ultimate typical section defined in the PD&E study. The comprehensive project features six general-use lanes arranged in an ultimate configuration, with strategic buffers that accommodate future express lanes and multimodal transportation options.

The design features a 164-foot buffer between the inside lanes, enabling future express lane development, and a 64-foot multimodal corridor that supports additional transportation alternatives. The existing partial cloverleaf interchange at I-75 and Fruitville Road will be reconfigured into a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), which will significantly improve traffic flow and operational safety.

Key Project Components:

  • Widened I-75 to a 10-lane ultimate configuration with six general-use lanes and strategic buffers supporting future express lane development

  • Reconfigured I-75/Fruitville Road interchange from partial cloverleaf to Diverging Diamond Interchange, improving traffic flow and safety

  • Incorporated a 164-foot inside lane buffer, enabling future express lane implementation and a 64-foot multimodal corridor for transportation alternatives

  • Added auxiliary lanes connecting I-75/SR 758 interchange ramps to the south while maintaining existing University Parkway connections

  • Installed emergency stopping sites on both northbound and southbound I-75 off-ramps, enhancing corridor safety

  • Widened Fruitville Road with auxiliary lanes, replacing flush shoulders with curb and gutter from Honore Avenue to east of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard

  • Prepared corridor for future enhancements supporting multimodal and express lane development, ensuring long-term transportation efficiency

The upgrade increases traffic capacity while establishing an infrastructure foundation for future transportation innovations. Strategic design elements ensure safer, more efficient roadway operations while accommodating Sarasota's continued growth and evolving mobility needs.
