Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport Runway 23 Extension and Runway Safety Area Improvements

Ardurra successfully transformed what was considered an unrealistic goal into reality for the City of Spartanburg, upgrading runway safety areas to current standards while extending the runway beyond the existing 5,200 feet despite challenging terrain and development constraints. The project required land acquisition, grant funding coordination, and extensive planning documentation, enabling this aviation infrastructure improvement.

The project commenced with an Environmental Assessment Study for the Runway Safety Area/Runway Extension Project, including runway extension justification and an economic feasibility analysis confirming the project's viability. Strategic coordination enabled the acquisition of the remaining parcels while advancing the recommended alternative through design phases, demonstrating effective long-term planning and stakeholder coordination.
