Pflugerville Water Treatment Facility

Ardurra provides design services for the City of Pflugerville's ambitious surface water treatment plant expansion from 17.7 MGD to 30 MGD, with ultimate buildout capacity to 75 MGD. The project addresses growing municipal water demands while incorporating advanced treatment technologies, ensuring reliable water quality and operational efficiency.

The expansion features new pretreatment processes utilizing the aluminum chlorohydrate (ACH) coagulant, three-stage flocculation, and high-rate plate settlers to address raw water quality fluctuations. Advanced membrane system retrofits and new chemical facilities support enhanced treatment capabilities, while innovative zebra mussel control systems protect infrastructure integrity.

Key Project Components:

• Expanding treatment capacity from 17.7 MGD to 30 MGD with an ultimate 75 MGD buildout supporting long-term municipal growth

• Constructing a new pretreatment system with ACH coagulant, three-stage flocculation, and plate settlers, maintaining steady membrane feed water

• Retrofitting existing submersible membrane system with expansion capabilities supporting enhanced treatment capacity and efficiency

• Installing new chemical facilities, including aluminum chlorohydrate, sodium hypochlorite, and liquid ammonium sulfate storage and feed systems

• Implementing copper ion generation for zebra mussel control, protecting treatment infrastructure, and maintaining operational efficiency

• Constructing a new chlorine contact basin, reducing DBP formation while enhancing disinfection CT compliance standards

• Expanding pump stations with new vertical turbine pumps for raw water and high service delivery to new pressure planes

• Developing comprehensive solids handling with gravity thickeners, pump stations, backwash clarifiers, and recycle systems
